heal.abstract |
Although the method of auxiliary sources (MAS) is a well-established numerical method that is potentially applicable to a wide range of problems, its limitations arise when applied to problems with open boundaries that have not been presented in detail. Particularly, in such cases, there are many difficulties associated with the application of the MAS. In this paper, special attention is focused on the behavior of numerical solutions in the far-field region. It is demonstrated that the solutions typically fail to predict the decaying profile of the far field, although they may be quite accurate in the near-field region. (c) 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. |
