The discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC opens a new era of particle physics. Higgs mechanism triggers the breaking of the Electroweak Symmetry and generates the mass of the fundamental particles. In addition, Higgs boson enjoys a special status since it can be seen as a portal to dark matter. At this point , that the mass of Higgs boson is known, the studies focus on the measurements of its properties with high accuracy. A key role in these studies plays the Event Reconstruction, which can be described as the process of exploiting electromagnetic signals of the detectors in order to identify all the stable particles that are taking place in a collision(event). The main goal of reconstruction is to associate the collection of objects to particles, which are being used in a plethora of physics analyses. As for the reconstruction of missing transverse momentum, which is a very useful "tool" in particle physics, it requires a complete representation of the interaction of interest and involves all subsystems of the detector. In these studies, neutrinos are considered of great importance due to the fact that they cannot be directly measured by ATLAS detector. However, their presence can be determined indirectly through the imbalance of the transverse momentum of the components of the detected particles. In the Standard Model-framework, only the neutrinos escape all the detectors. However, in the BSM, the undetected particles may be dark matter candidates.
This analysis aims at the extraction of information about the neutrino mass. Neutrinos only interact via weak interactions. Their energy and momentum cannot be measured directly and their presence affects the kinematics of the collision. Therefore, an algorithm for invariant mass distribution in a search for Higgs boson is developed. The invariant mass is calculated using the transverse momentum of the visible decay products. Due to the fact that lepton multiplicity leads to a mass shifting, this algorithm exploits the leptonic and semileptonic decays of the H-->bb decay, in order to provide information about the mass of the neutrino. |
