| el |
| heal.abstract | The research object of this diploma thesis is the analysis, design, and evaluation of hip implant stems utilizing lattice structures. Specifically, the design of stems used in Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) was investigated, with the aim of proposing improved design solutions to reduce implant wear and loosening over time. The research focused on cementless implants. A lattice-based design for modular implants was proposed, and their biomechanical behavior was investigated using the Finite Element Method (FEM) under "Standing," "Walking," and "Stair Climbing" conditions. The methodology was based on the use of nTopology software, through which a stochastic Voronoi lattice structure was implemented. This structure was selected for its exceptional biomimetic capability, as it simulates the stochastic nature of human trabecular bone. The structure underwent optimization via spatial weighting, adjusting the strut thickness according to the loads derived from the biomechanical analysis. The objective was to optimize stress distribution and mitigate the "stress shielding" effect. Regarding the manufacturing process, Selective Laser Melting (SLM) was identified as the most suitable method for fabricating the metallic implant (Stainless Steel 316L), due to the high precision required for the lattice geometry. The thesis concluded with the experimental fabrication of a scaled physical prototype using the FDM method. This process highlighted critical manufacturing constraints, such as the relationship between strut thickness and track width, while simultaneously confirming the geometric integrity of the design. The purpose of this research is to collect data that can assist in designing stems with longer service life and superior osseointegration rates compared to existing ones, reinforcing the trend toward personalized implant design and ultimately providing the medical field with valuable information for the optimal selection of hip prostheses. | en |
