heal.abstract This thesis addresses the problem of Alternating Current Optimal Power Flow (AC Optimal Power Flow – AC OPF), which constitutes a fundamental tool for the economic and secure operation of modern power systems. The solution of this problem is characterized by significant computational complexity, thereby necessitating the development of efficient approximation methods. In this context, the application of the Successive Linear Programming (SLP) method is investigated. The method is based on the iterative linearization of the nonlinear problem and the solution of a sequence of linear subproblems. This approach leverages the advantages of linear programming techniques, making it particularly suitable for large-scale applications. Special emphasis is placed on the development of intermediate mechanisms for controlling the convergence of the algorithm, aiming at reducing computational cost while maintaining a high level of solution accuracy. Furthermore, the impact of the initialization point and the step-size control mechanism on the convergence behavior of the algorithm is thoroughly examined. Through numerical experiments on power systems of varying scales, the critical role of initialization is highlighted, along with the importance of appropriately tuning the parameter governing the tightening of variable bounds in order to ensure convergence. The results demonstrate that the SLP method is capable of delivering reliable and highly accurate solutions with substantially reduced processing cost, provided that the initial operating point lies sufficiently close to the optimal solution, thereby enabling successive linearizations to accurately capture the underlying nonlinear behavior of the problem. Furthermore, careful tuning of the algorithmic and problem-specific parameters is shown to be equally critical for achieving satisfactory convergence and solution quality. Overall, this work contributes to a deeper understanding of the factors influencing the performance of the SLP method and highlights its potential for application in realistic large-scale power systems. en
