heal.abstract The reaction kinetics for the leaching of iron oxides from boehmitic bauxite were studied in a spherical, mechanically stirred reactor at dilute solids concentration to determine the important chemical factors that govern the kinetic response of the system. The experimental rate data suggest that the leaching reaction is controlled by diffusion of the reactants through the permeable product layer and that the shrinking-core model applies. Jander's rate equation, was found to fit the experimental results. The activation energy was almost the same, 25.1 kJ mol-1, for the different particle-size fractions. en
