A software system is presented aimed at training shop floor personnel in the domain of scheduling principles. The software includes a scenario developer and an interactive shop floor simulator, supported by explanatory material in the form of on-line help. The simulator prompts the user for any decision and offers all information necessary for product, machine and batch size selection through well-structured forms. Scheduling heuristics are offered, too. Schedule quality is evaluated through a global function (cash balance), as well as through indices related to order satisfaction and various types of cost. The system is written in C++ as a Windows application and its educational nature is supported by Windows help files. |
