An improvement on the Serre bound for the number of rational places is obtained. Using our result we improve the bounds on the generalized Hamming weights of the duals of the BCH codes estimated by Stichtenoth and Vo beta. Our new bound is tight in the binary case of the generalized Hamming weight of BCH(2)(perpendicular to). |
