heal.abstract | We discuss the existence of electromagnetic modes in the interior of a photonic crystal that do not couple to states outside the material for symmetry reasons. We show that by sliding the surface layers these modes can be excited. We exploit this to prove that it is possible to change the plane of polarization of an electromagnetic wave transmitted through a thin slab of a photonic crystal. | en |
