heal.abstract The present paper deals with the characterization of anaerobically stabilized primary sewage sludge (ASPSS) from Psittalia wastewater treatment plant. The ASPSS contains high concentration of organics and phosphorus, but the concentration of humic substances is considered to be low. Also the ASPSS contains a significant amount of heavy metals. The metal form distribution in the sludge sample found by the application of a sequential extraction procedure, indicated that an important part of the metal content is carried by the reducible and residual fractions. Finally, in order to estimate the metal leachability of the sludge the Generalized Acid Neutralization Capacity procedure was used. en
