The semiconductance of the various types of solid TiO2 was measured and correlated to their protective properties. When the n-semiconductors were added in protective polymers such as chlorinated rubber, their protective properties increased. Some industrial products, such as TiO2 employed as a white coloring agent in anticorrosive coatings, which are not systematically prepared to have n-semiconductance properties, were also observed to possess these properties due to different electrical disorders or impurities. The semiconductance of the solid pigments served as a measure of their protective properties against corrosion. |
