The method of oxidative induction time (OIT), based on thermogravimetry (TG), was used for monitoring the restabilization of post-use LDPE samples, subjected to multiple extrusion cycles, The method used has abilities and limitations which are discussed. The use of a restabilization system improved the oxidative stability of LDPE. A linear calibration curve correlating OIT values to the amount of restabilization system was obtained. Nevertheless, limitations concerning quantitative determinations appeared to exist, as a change in the behaviour of restabilization system during subsequent remelting cycles was observed.
