The study of the statistical behaviour of the received signal when a user is present near the transmitting handset antenna is presented in this paper. The probability distribution function (pdf) is analysed in two parts, with the first one examining the random movement of the antenna near the user's head and the second one examining the fast fading of the radiated signal. Different probability distribution functions are considered for the first part. Measurements of the statistical variation of the distance between the user's head and the antenna are presented and they are compared with the pdf's considered. A new model is derived based on the combination of two known pdf's and it is given the name "VeCa distribution". Measurements of the statistical behaviour of the received signal from a distantly located antenna, when a user is present near the transmitting antenna, are presented and the comparison with the VeCa distribution proves the superiority of the latter against the Rayleigh distribution which is only successful when the antenna is left alone (with no scatterers in its proximity). |
