heal.abstract Based on the principle of thermodynamic equilibrium, the solubility curves of trivalent iron and aluminum at 25 degreesC are presented and used as a guide for the prediction and understanding of the chemistry of these metal ions in oxalic acid solutions. The present paper proposes a framework derived from equilibrium thermodynamic data that was formulated to qualitatively correlate and predict the trivalent iron and aluminum species distribution in the Fe3+ - Al3+ - H2C2O4 - H2O system for oxalic acid concentrations varying between 1 and 10(-6) M. The paper also advocates the use of graphical representations to visualise the importance of different appearing species in the system under study as a function of pH and oxalic acid concentration. en
