In metallic-like field emission, from metallic or semiconducting surfaces, most of the emitted electrons have energies within a narrow range from the Fermi level downwards, originating from a continuous (in energy) density of states at the surface of the emitter. In the present paper we introduce a generalized Fowler-Nordheim formula to describe metallic-like emission. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved. |
