The present paper, deals with the characterization of effluents from a sulphuric acid iron pickling process as well as the effect of lime as a neutralization and precipitation agent for sulphates and iron removal. The effluent contains about 15.2 +/- 2.9 g/l of sulphates and 2.5 +/- 0.8 g/l of Fe2+. The need of CaO for wastewater neutralization is about 10 +/- 1.5 g/l and at pH 7 the removal of sulphates and iron by precipitation was about 80% and 82%, respectively. However, to guarantee the Emission Low Values (ELVs), the pH must be increased to more than 10. |
