A new methodology named ""PARIS"" (Production Analysis for Rate and Inventories Strategies) can help mill managers make successful decisions in working toward the best possible operation of the mill. The objective is to maximize profits through optimal management of inventories and optimal selection of production rates. A mill-wide detailed model is first developed. Mass and energy balances, system constraints, storage capacities, and other parameters are taken into account. Optimization techniques are utilized to minimize the economical impact of scheduled shutdowns and daily disturbances that arise from unpredictable events such as machine breakdowns and changes in production demands. Application: PARIS offers a new technique to help mill managers meet production targets while minimizing costs. |
