This paper presents a decision support framework for assisting the process of urban design, which proposes a practical approach to intelligent knowledge-based systems as a back end to modeling, utilization, and management of specialized expertise. The methodology framework requires the formal analysis and modeling of the expert domain as a precondition to the effective utilization of predictive decision aids in the area of urban design. First order predicate logic, extended with fuzzy set theory, is used to represent the domain knowledge and fuzzy cognitive map models'ambiguous causal relationships between urban entities. This paper presents modeling and implementation examples accompanied by preliminary experimental results and comments on the usefulness of the proposed methodology framework.
