A web front-end is developed that utilized various aspects of the freely available Google Map API to provide a usable, robust, and cross-platform web map to capture and describe geographical information. Geocoder tool, Google Earth is used that gives a simple interface to navigate over global satellite map and manually assign points of interest with makers, polylines, and polygons. The Map API is embedded in web pages by signing up for an API key, and XSL filters are developed for the KML file that contains tools for producing JavaScript code to manage and manipulate 16-digit numbers. The maximum utilization of the web page area is achieved by embedding the structured list of sites. The Javacript-based environment provides the necessary facilities to extend the default behavior and satisfies the challenging requirements in the web map of geographical information capture. |
