A number of research papers are included in the special issue of the ScienceDirect journal to provide information about real-time attributes in Grids. All the papers are extended and revised to reflect the latest research achievements in real-time capabilities and attributes of Grid computing. The themes of the papers vary and cover different aspects of Grid computing, ranging from network mobility and network-aware scheduling to resource management, load-prediction methods and security architectures to support real-time communication in Grids. The first paper discusses the mobile network layer and the SIP-based network signaling of a grid architecture and the way the SIP and SDP protocols can serve as a means for allowing the communication of mobile web service providers and clients. Another paper describes a QoS-aware architecture including implemented scheduling and resource management mechanisms, with an admission control scheme, which allow for the selection of Grid resources. |
