heal.abstract It is shown that the main features of the central plateau of the one-pion inclusive proton-proton cross sections can be accounted for by a non-Regge (Pomeron) contribution σP(s). The function σP(s) is the solution of an integral equation of the convolution type. σP(s) contains an ""asymptotic part"" A+B lns (responsible for the asymptotic features of the plateau) and a nonasymptotic part Γs which determines the approach to scaling. © 1979 The American Physical Society. en
