A systematic effort is undertaken in order to approach the problem of shear transfer in the joints of linear precast elements using shear transfer mechanisms. The nature of the mechanism (friction and dowel) and the parameters which influence the respective strengths are examined, and a reference is made to the analytical expressions which are commonly used for the estimation of the strength of such mechanisms. The total shear force which can be transferred by the joint may be evaluated as the sum of the forces transfered by each mechanism. The influence of bending on the shear strength of the joint is also examined. |
