The fracture mode of a bi-phase plane specimen under an external extensive impulsive load was studied in this paper. The plane stress specimens were made from an orthogonal steel inclusion penetrated into an elastic matrix made of epoxy resin. The technique used for the study of the crack propagation was the optical method of the transmitted caustics. The analysis of the instantaneous caustics gave the values of the stress intensity factor and the propagation velocity along the crack path. The results of the tests were presented in diagrams and interesting conclusions for the behavior of propagating cracks were derived. |
