heal.abstract	Integrated transport gains more and more the preference of customers. This applies specifically to cases which include a rail leg in the trip chain. A whole set of categories of commodities and shipments qualify for an expansion which may offer dramatic monetary and energy cost savings; moreover they would give to the railways new customers, thus supporting the efforts for the improvement of the railway services in general. Improvements in the CDS are necessary prerequisites for the development of the attractiveness of rail services. This is more evident in the case of countries with low level of railway services, where freight is diverted to other modes and in consequence makes the Governments hesitate in approving the necessary financing. On the other hand the improvements of C-D systems need low investments and thus coincide with the restrictions imposed on national budgets.	en
