Measurements have been made of Raman scattering from pure single crystals of NaCl at several temperatures in the range 3001025 K. With reference to the 2TA(X) and 2LA(X) bands, which are well resolved at all temperatures, it has been found that the observed intensities are much greater than those anticipated by the thermal factor for second-order scattering, especially at the higher temperatures. It is suggested that most of the excess scattered light is due to first-order scattering brought about by temperature-produced defects in the crystals. © 1986 The American Physical Society. |
