The area of state-feedback control design techniques for three-dimensional systems is challenging from both the theoretical and practical points of view. Concepts such as transfer function, state-space models, state transition matrix, controllability, observability, stability, model minimality, state observer, digital filter, state-feedback controller, and optimal filter are also encountered in three-dimensional systems and are in most cases natural generalizations of corresponding one-dimensional and two-dimensional concepts. These concepts together with the state-space controller design techniques presented in this chapter provide powerful tools of analysis, design, and processing of variables and processes depending on three independent variables, one of which may be time. |
