heal.abstract	The present paper describes some of the problems concerning conservation of monuments, caused by the post-war economic and social conditions. The various categories of monuments in Greece are described, including the materials of which they are made, and in addition data are given on air pollution in Athens, available from continuous measurements and observations made in recent years. One part of the text refers to the implementation of integrated conservation in Greece, with the program for conservation of the historic Athenian quarter of Plaka as an example. Finally an effort is made to develop a general approach to the problems facing protection and conservation of monuments, especially the problem of air pollution.	en
