This paper describes drivers' speed behavior on rural roads in Greece. The concept of operating speed has been recognized as a basic tool for the determination of individual road element values and for achieving consistency in horizontal alignment design. The relation between operating speed V85 on curves and various geometric design parameters has been investigated. The results definitely suggest that the operating speed is strongly related to the curvature and to the desired speed. |
