heal.abstract	The overall plan of small hydro development on the Lower Acheloos river in Greece included the development of the Stratos hydroelectric project, to provide irrigation flow to the Aetolia plain from a 6.7 MW powerplant. It has been concluded that the maximum mean daily irrigation required is of the order of 30 to 36 m3/s from mid-June to mid-August. Although the powerplant is designed for a maximum irrigation flow of 45.4 m3/s, it is necessary for the two units to operate occasionally for only short periods of time in the day, while re-regulation of the flow takes place in the re-regulating reservoir. This refers to the two-year operation of the small hydro powerplant of Stratos, to satify irrigation requirements. Conclusions are drawn regarding the overall operation of small hydro powerplants to satisfy the specific characteristics of irrigation demands.	en
