This paper presents an investigation of potential applications of robust Wind-Diesel systems in Greece. The case study is based upon the data of the power system of Kythnos, an island in the Aegean Sea, where the first Greek windfarm connected to the diesel supplied grid is already in operation. In the simulations, the power system of the island is modified to robust Wind-Diesel configurations, Class 1 and 2. The fuel savings of those Wind-Diesel systems are computed for a range of system parameter values, such as the diesel genset minimum power, the wind power penetration, the wind speed and consumer load data variation. Moreover, the Pay-Back Period of the additional Wind-Diesel investments is calculated using simple economic assumptions, and the results are evaluated and discussed. |
