The conditions involved in the formation of coatings in the last cyclone stage of preheaters and at the kiln inlet with suspension preheaters were studied in a kiln with a production rate of 2000 tpd clinker. Measurements were carried out by using different quantitative analytical techniques as well as X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, both when no apparent coatings occurred and when coatings were formed in the outlet of the last cyclone stage of the preheater and at the kiln inlet. In order to prevent coating, the chloride content in the raw meal must be lower than 500 ppm and the gas temperature must be kept below 1100°C. |
