heal.abstract | Use of adsorptive materials for the removal of polymerization inhibitors from styrene is studied. The adsorptive materials selected cover a wide range of properties and structure. The most important inhibitors that are used in laboratory and industrial scale were studied. The effectiveness of the adsorptive materials was assessed by determining the inhibitor uptake at equilibrium. It was found that activated carbons are the most effective adsorbents for the removal of inhibitors from styrene and that the factor most affecting adsorption is the polarity of the adsorbent and the adsorbate. The possible importance of removing the inhibitor before industrial-scale polymerization is demonstrated. | en |
