One of the most important factors of mine operation scheduling is the production planning. The importance of production planning, on one hand, and the complications during its application phase, on the other, because of the nature and the number of factors that influence it, undoubtedly make the use of specific methods and tools necessary in order to find better and more flexible solutions to the problem. In this paper the problem of production planning in open-pit lignite mining is approached through a combination of heuristic algorithms. Specifically, our approach is based on the exploitation of a lignite deposit with an extended horizontal stratification and on the use of the `German equipment method'. A new integrated system has been developed resulting in the following: a) Programming the lignite/waste material to be extracted throughout the exploitation process. b) Estimating the progress of exploitation at any given time as well as the time required for the extraction of given quantities of lignite/waste. c) Indicating alternatives for the operation of the established main equipment in order to meet the demand for lignite. |
