In the Athens basin, many severe air pollution episodes have been reported during the last three decades. In the present work, the impact of wind conditions on air pollution levels during summer days is investigated by means of sun spectrometry. The sea breeze, though being associated with high air pollution levels, is not the only factor increasing them. The air pollution levels of one day also depend on the previous day's air pollutant concentrations and weather conditions. The results axe presented and discussed taking into account Athens's climatological and topographical peculiarities. |
