heal.abstract The nucleotide 5′-guanosine monophosphate (5′-GMPNa2) was irradiated with γ-rays in aerated aqueous solutions in the absence as well as in the presence of cis-dichlorodiammineplatinum(II) (cis-DDP). The HPLC data of the radiolysis products suggest that O2• radicals reduce the Pt(II) complex formed to Pt(I) complex, which finally releases by disproportionation Pt metal, Pt(0). cis-DDP acts as a radiosensitizer and the irradiation in the presence of cis-DDP leads to the release of the base guanine. © 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
