High resolution 89Y NMR measurements have been carried out to study the effect of Y substitution in Bi2ST2Ca1-xYxCu2O y. A single resonance line was observed for samples with x ≥ 0.5, while an additional line was observed for x < 0.5, possibly arising from Y which occupies the Sr site. The resonance of the Y on the Ca site shifts diamagnetically upon increasing the carrier concentration and paramagnetically upon reducing the temperature, in close relation with the variation of Tc in the system. © 1999 Elsevier Science B.V.
