heal.abstract This article presents the results of an investigation of driver attitude toward road safety issues at interurban roads in Greece. It identifies a series of driver behavior characteristics with use of parametric statistical analysis methods (discriminant, cluster, and factor analysis). The findings of this analysis suggest that young male drivers and high vehicle occupancy are factors associated with speed excess, and that drivers with lower yearly mileage are more inclined to drink and drive, independently of their age. Finally, despite the almost unanimous belief that enforcement could be an important contributor to road safety improvement, enforcement at the interurban road network is considered far from efficient. © 1999 Eno Transportation Foundation, Inc.,. en
