Wheat straw and sweet sorghum stem lignocellulosic pulps obtained by acid-catalysed water-ethanol solutions were treated with manganese peroxidase (MnP) from Phanerochaete chrysosporium in oxalate or malonate buffers. The results obtained by thioacidolysis showed that MnP degraded 15-30% of the beta -O-4 linked guaiacyl and syringyl lignin monomers. The treatment with the MnP did not have any pronounced effect i) on the monomer sugars composition (arabinose, glucose, xylose, galactose, mannose) and ii) on the p-coumaric and ferulic acids associated to the lignocellulosic fractions. |
