Co-ordinating the insulation of an electric network is to design its insulation with all its components, so as to economically minimise damage and service interruption as a consequence of steady state and transient overvoltage stresses. The paper deals with electrical transients, studying the effect of transient parameters on insulation co-ordination of shielded and unshielded power cables. In order to identify the cable stresses closer to reality the electric field distribution is to be obtained and then the electric transients liable to be encountered by that cable in specific operating conditions should be computed. The transient regime is traced, considering the cable surge parameters and the usual network configurations (substations, buses, cables, overhead lines, etc.). The results are graphically represented using dedicated software, which produces graphs that easily highlight the traced effect and the influence of the dominant factors. |
