heal.abstract Leo Szilard's model of one-molecule heat engine occupies a distinguished place among very many and lasting attempts by researchers to prevent Maxwell's demon from functioning as a perpetual motion machine of the second kind. The analysis in this paper comments on the results from the operation of Szilard's model and raises questions about the internal consistency of his model. Based on these intrinsic problems of the model we have concluded that this does not constitute a complete and definitive 'exorcism' of the demon. However, the conclusions from the model's analysis manifest that the model has a much more significant role than producing a demon's exorcism: The Szilard's one - molecule heat engine contributes to the insight on the wide range of applicability of the second law of thermodynamics, the thermodynamic performance of information systems and the role of the information in the realm of thermodynamics. en
