This paper addresses the topic of fires/explosions onboard all types of Greek vessels; to this effect, it identifies numerous hazards, outlines the respective historical records for Greek ships on a worldwide basis, and reveals significant trends and risks with the results of a rigorous and thorough statistical analysis. In general, fires/explosions are considered to be very important marine accidents that have the potential of leading to high consequences, in terms both of human losses and oil spillage. The paper will provide the aggregated picture of the fire/explosion risk onboard Greek ships focusing on the overall amelioration of safety and protection of the marine environment and it will be concluded with various interesting insights from the above described tasks and results. |
