innovative dissipative INERD connections for seismic resistant steel structures were introduced. Next, this paper investigates the stability behaviour of multi-storey braced frames with conventional full strength and dissipative INERD connections. It is shown that the demand on stiffness and strength of the frames with INERD connections is due to the high ductility and the protection of the braces against buckling much lower compared to the corresponding one for conventional frames and that it covers the relevant capacity. Accordingly, the structural weight and the costs for at least the same seismic performance may be reduced. |
