heal.abstract |
The advantage of coherent radiating multi-element heating systems consisting of waveguides or multiple dipole antennas is that they provide the possibility of controlling the electromagnetic energy deposited in the tissue. However, a significant limitation has been related to the side effects created by the coupling phenomena between array source elements. The coupling between the waveguide applicators of a TEM concentric array, radiating into a 3-layered cylindrical body model of circular cross section is treated semianalytically using the scattering matrix notation. The scattering parameters indicating the effect of coupling via the radiating apertures of an 8 elements TEM concentric array are computed and presented at the operation range of the system. |
