The design of fitting the advancements in the fields of virtual reality, streaming audio and video, multi-user online communities and multimedia databases onto the needs of a Biomedical Engineering Laboratory (BEL) is discussed. The BEL was established in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens to cover domains related to the provision of high quality health services in specialized biomedical engineering issues as well as research projects at national and international level. The users of the service can be divided into: secretarial and organizing information, information related to ongoing projects and research activities, educational materials, and on-line discussion forums. |
