heal.abstract Hybrid materials composed of polymer or sol-gel derived silica matrices containing cobalt chloride microand nanocrystals were fabricated and evaluated as thin film humidity sensors. In contrast to the well known chromatometric / absorptive response, the reversible modification of the molecular complexes alters severely the surface morphology of the films. The functionality of the sensor due to the resulting variable diffractivelscattering effects is demonstrated by use of interrogating coherent and incoherent light beams. en
