In order to get the most out of an e-commerce application concerning the supply chain, companies implement Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Thus, ERP systems become a core component of the extended e-supply chain. On the other hand, although an ERP system is essential for the operation of an e-supply chain, it can also prove to be a risky project for the company that will decide to implement it. The paper aims to identify and classify ERP implementation risks in certain categories so as to offer an aid to the ERP systems' implementation project teams, wishing to integrate ERP systems to e-commerce applications. Risks have been identified through published risk catalogues and return from experience related to ERP installations, concerning an ongoing project in the (para)pharmaceutical industry. The paper results in a certain Risk Breakdown Structure including risks that affect such kind of projects. © 2005 IEEE. |
