The paper deals with the proposed design of a special repository in Greece, which will store hazardous wastes from the remediation of a metallurgical plant. The repository will be constructed in low depth within the marble formation found in the area, following the room and pillar mining method. The design process regarding the verification of the structural stability of the pillars is presented and aspects of the proposed technical barriers are discussed. |
