This paper reviews the basic modeling assumptions of power systems including hybrid system representation and classifies power system stability problems, as well as the properties of stability limits using nonlinear dynamical system theory. Various types of limits and bifurcations are discussed, as well as the problem of defining the region of attraction of a stable equilibrium set of a hybrid system. Computational methods to locate the closest stability limit and visualize in a two-dimensional display the hypersurface of loadability limits are presented. © 2006 IEEE. |
