In this paper a technique is presented concerning the characterization of magnetic properties of the sensing core of a new type of fluxgate sensor. The technique is based on the measurement of the magnetic induction of the ferromagnetic sensing core, going out of the material itself. Experiments using Vitrovac® Fe-Co rich rapidly quenched amorphous ribbons, Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) films and Ni80Fe20 films are presented illustrating that Vitrovac® and YIG films present the most sensitive response. The technique can also be used for other magnetic induction measurements for samples with thickness comparable to the Hall device active surface. Copyright © 2007 American Scientific Publishers.
