Social and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks have received considerable interest in recent decades due to its focus on analysis and relationships among entities and on the patterns and implications of these relationships. In the meantime, with the rapid increase in production and distribution of multimedia content, effectively integrating context and content for multimedia mining, management, indexing and retrieval on the Internet has become an evident and difficult problem. As this problem in multimedia content analysis becomes widely recognised, the search for solutions to these problems becomes an increasingly active area for research and development. The interest in this area is verified by a significantly increasing number of publications each year. In this paper, we give an overview of the key theoretical and empirical advances in the current decade related to multimedia content analysis. We also discuss the significant challenges involved in the adaptation of existing multimedia content analysis techniques for interactive content sharing in social and P2P networks. |
