Control of data transfer over a noisy channel in a computer network is usually provided by its Data Link Layer. Error detection and recovery (by means of forward error correction and/or retransmission) of the data transferred, are the main functions of this layer. Performance and correctness are the properties, for which the data link protocols are analysed. In this paper a survey of the retransmission protocols and their performance evaluation techniques is presented. |
